Special Education Needs (SEN) Course

(3 day course) (Monday 26th,Tuesday 27th and Wednesday 28th July)

Join us at the IPC Summer School for our new SEN Course: Helping to Remove Barriers to Learning through the IPC. This course is designed for all schools (IPC implementing and non-implementing mainstream schools) at both Beginning and Developing level.

This 3 day course will include:

  • The IPC as a learning-focused curriculum - helping to remove barriers to learning
  • An overview of the learning challenges facing internationally mobile pupils
  • Understanding behaviours and barriers to learning
  • An overview of SEN (autism, learning disabilities, dyslexia, attention disorders, communication difficulties, developmental co-ordination difficulties, gifted and highly able) and approaches in support and intervention
  • Strategies to support learners presenting with SEN and ideas for extending and adapting IPC thematic, cross-curricular learning units
  • Working together to adapt an existing IPC thematic, cross-curricular learning unit to meet learning needs within your class
  • Involving and encouraging parents in supporting their child
  • Opportunities for networking and sharing of best practice with other teachers and SEN leaders for learning

Course facilitator: Jayne Pletser

Jayne is a part time doctorate student at Bath University and a free lance, educational advisor and interim school manager based in The Hague in the Netherlands. She was formerly a head teacher and deputy general director of an IPC, Dutch International Primary school and is a registered Dutch Educational Director. Jayne holds qualifications in special educational needs and her research interests are in the area of international school management and special educational needs provision.
